Service for Young Night Drifters (Tai Po and North District)

Project Sinews

Objectives:

  • Prevent the young people from falling prey to negative influence
  • Provide on-the-spot crisis intervention for the young people in crisis situation
  • Provide guidance and counseling to assist the young people to handle their educational, vocational, family, interpersonal and personal problem. Referral services are provided if needed
  • Enhance the young people problem-solving ability, potential development and contribution towards the society

Target Group of Services:

  • Youth aged 6-24 who are found loitering or drifting in the street or public areas from 10 p.m. to 6a.m. in the next day and are eligible for the above mentioned service needs in the defined boundaries.

Service Content:

  1. Case Counselling: The main focus is crisis management and counselling, helping them to understand, face and analyse feasible ways to deal with their problems and providing advice, to enhance their abilities to deal with family, academic, employment, peer and emotional problems.
  2. Group Work: Social workers will reach out to the youth groups in the district to reduce the negative influence of the groups, prevent them from engaging in illegal activities and organise or refer them to participate in preventive group activities, including awareness of the negative influence of triad societies, drug resistance education, sex education, etc.
  3. Community Work: Through community education activities such as seminars, research, exhibitions and visits, social workers will liaise with local organisations to raise public awareness of the problems and needs of youth, promote mutual understanding between youth and the community, and create a more ideal growing environment for youth.
  4. Telephone Consultation Service: To provide immediate crisis intervention for the service users, so that the youths can receive appropriate support during late night.
