Little Starfish On-site Pre-school Rehabilitation Services
Service Objectives:
To provide early intervention for children with special needs
To provide support for teachers / child care workers on knowledge and skills in working with children with special needs
To provide support for parents / carers on positive attitude and effective skills in raising their children with special needs
Target Service Users:
1. Children under the age of six attending the participating KGs/ KG-cum-CCCs who have been assessed by paediatricians, clinical/ educational psychologists or other qualified professionals as recognised by Social Welfare Department to have mild disabilities.
2. Children suspected of having special needs, (i.e. children awaiting assessment by Child Assessment Centres of Department of Health (CACs) or assessed by CACs to have borderline developmental problem) or assessed by the service team with reference to the “Child Observation Checklist (i.e. Tier 1 Children).
3. Teachers, child care workers and parents/ carers of the children mentioned above.
Scope of Services:
The services provided by a multi-disciplinary team shall include the following:
1. For children with special needs
On-site individual/group training
On-site classroom observation
Centre-based training
2. For teachers and child care workers
On-site professional consultation, talks/workshops/seminars and demonstration
Telephone consultation
3. For parents/carers
Talks/workshops/seminars on knowledge and skills in raising children with special needs
