Little Starfish – On-site Pre-school Rehabilitation Services

Objectives:

  • To provide early intervention for children with special needs
  • To provide support for teachers / child care workers on knowledge and skills in working with children with special needs
  • To provide support for parents / carers on positive attitude and effective skills in raising their children with special needs

Target Group of Services:

    1. Children with mild disabilities under the age of six attending the participating KGs or KG-cum-CCCs and on the waiting list of Social Welfare Department (SWD)’s central referral system.
    2. Teachers / child care workers and parents / carers of such children.
    3. Children on the waiting list of SWD’s central referral system are given priority. If there is a vacancy, the team may exercise flexibility to provide services for children who are waiting for assessment by Child Assessment Centres, provided that SWD’s prior approval will be granted and the number of these children will not exceed 10% of the team’s service capacity.

    Service Content:

    The services provided by a multi-disciplinary team shall include the following:
      1. For children with special needs
        • On-site individual/group training
        • On-site classroom observation
        • Centre-based training
      1. For teachers and child care workers
        • On-site professional consultation, talks/workshops/seminars and demonstration
        • Telephone consultation
      1. For parents/carers
        • Talks/workshops/seminars on knowledge and skills in raising children with special needs
